Manalapan is a small beach side community with a unique geographical configuration. It is comprised of two separate areas liked only by water. The more known area amongst travelers is the Boynton Inlet that travels along the main north south highway along A-1-A and the more secluded one that occupies the Town of Lantana, sharing Hypoluxo Island which is about 1/3 of the island. Its name was thought to be taken from the New Jersey Manalapan which in Indian means “Good Bread”. 2010 census shows data of 406 residents up to 550 when seasonal. The wreck Lofthus is approximately 175 yards off the shore of Manalapan in the Florida Underwater Archeological Preserve.
