Yes! I Survived..

The word "Disease" refers to conditions that impair normal tissue function. Let's include the many pandemics that have hit the world and those that caused complete chaos and fear. The most recent being COVID-19. As of 6/14/2020, 117K deaths can be connected to the virus.

Plagues and epidemics have ravaged humanity throughout its existence often changing the course of history. Pandemics have occurred as far back as 5,000 years ago. The plague, that hit China, wiped out a prehistoric village. Archaeological and anthropological study indicates that the epidemic happened quickly enough that there was no time for proper burials, and the site was not inhabited again.

There have been at least 20 epidemics that have occurred all over the world to date. In 1918 there was a influenza virus known as the Spanish Flu. It was the most severe epidemic to happen in recent history. It spread world wide during 1918-1919. It lasted two years during World War 1. It is estimated that about 500 Million people or one-third of the world's population, died. It is said that at least 675,000 occurring in the United States.

The high mortality in healthy people, including those in the 20-40 age group, was an unique feature in this pandemic. But these people survived. How did they escape infection? Were they healthier? Was it a strong immune system? Many might have been just carriers, infected but no symptoms? Why were these people so special?

In June of 1981 the next pandemic was on the rise. The first cases of AIDS began to appear. Fear and panic gripped people world wide. Transmission was unknown, yet people all over began to die. HIV/AIDS had arrived. As of 2018, there were 770,000 deaths due to the virus and 13,000 cases a year are still reported world wide. Over time we bagan to see "Carriers". These are people who carry the virus but seem to never get ill. My name is Gina Brown-Cohen and I have been positive for 27 years. I was diagnosed Valentine's Day, 1993 and I have never had an illness due to the virus. I Survived! Why me? Why you? Are we stronger? Did God spare us? Are Immune Systems better equipped to handle illness?

These is a place to share your stories. Let others know what you did. What do you think keeps you healthy? For me, I believe, I just got lucky with a kick ass immune system. Also infection, when transmitted has the ability to transmit it's strength. You may be infected with a less aggressive virus or full blown AIDS.

AIDS is still out there and still being transmitted to this day however this girl does have a great immune system and taking care if that immune system is a priority! So, tell us how you do it. How have you SURVIVED?
