A handful of men and women living in Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield wanted to establish a church so the People of Air Force Base sat together to discuss the possibilities of starting a church. After few meetings, they decided to start one by the name of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. As the time passed the church changed to several locations and management finally purchase some land for the proper place.
Mount Calvary Baptist Church joined hands with the Department of Housing and Urban Development in 1970 to provide housing for those with low incomes. Finally, they completed a 92 unit apartment. Later, Mount Calvary Baptist Church partnered with Habitat for Humanity and continued building homes for low and moderate income people.
In 1991 Mount Calvary Baptist Church opened African-American Heritage Library and later on its name was changed to Claybon Lea Memorial Library. Mount Calvary Baptist Church started their magazine in 2005 by the name "Word and Worship" and submitted the Twelve Tribes Family Ministry Care Plan to help in achieving the goal of Core Ministry Teams.
